RIP Toucher and Rich Show ... It was fun while it lasted

I think the whole thing is rigged. Fred and Rich keep influencing the audience to vote who they feel will get the most pop out of their live show (i.e. Brrd, Roche & Zolak). I for one am sick of Brrd and hearing about his zany shenanigans. Pass.

Murray brought more talent, skill, discipline, and better insults, but Zo brings an entertainment value that might be unfair, but is real.

AC/DC was a better, more entertaining show than Yngwie Malmsteen, and it's not because they were smarter, or worked harder, or were more talented or musically gifted. The Ramones had something over the Police and the Talking Heads, and it was not musical ability.

Wait the rap battle between radio personalities isn't on the level? Call the police!

I don't think they're rigging it and not really influencing it, outside of Bird. The whole things is a giant joke to get through the dog days of summer. It's meant to be fun, not a real contest. They openly admit to putting together matchups that'll be the most fun. This isn't the NCAA Tourney.

If you want to pass, go turn on D&C talking about how black people should stop murdering each other and Black Lives Matter ignores that all black people are criminals. maybe they'll have some hot takes from Curt Schilling on 'Crooked Hillary'

They could also do the F&M and talk about Wright running the bases for 3 hours and analyzing the 2 second video and coming up with conspiracy theories.

This whole 98 Mile thing is brutal and I can't wait for it to be over! I hadn't listened to their show in years and wasn't aware of this bit. The whole middle-aged white guys rapping thing is cringeworthy. Thought it wasn't gonna be on the podcasts?

It is indicative of the state of the Boston sports talk radio scene. WEEI invented/stole the "personality fights with co-worker" bit two decades ago; T&R do it in a somewhat good-natured way with a ton of production applied to cover up the intra-office rivalries. The only difference is the production; that they have to "rap" and there's a "contest" makes it somewhat more interesting than just a run-of-the-mill argument featuring two dudes shouting at each other over who's more pretty.

July and August are the low point of the sports talk radio calendar. There's only so much Fire Farrell talk to do in one day.

Don't you dare insult Adam Jones like that.

That's also pretty much the only good thing I have to say about Adam Jones. Kid can flow.

They've turned Roche into one of the most compelling Boston media figures to me. The guy is fucking hilarious - both intentionally and unintentionally.

I didn't have a podcast ready to go and had to take my daughter to camp so I listened for a bit. The big sports take of the day: if Jim Vesey doesn't come to Boston, he's soft.

Jones starts off with, "Obviously I haven't seen him play, but you would think that if Jim Vesey doesn't go to the Bruins, it's probably because he's soft."

You guys deprived yourself of the wisdom that Tom Brady fought the NFL tooth and nail, but he also laid down to the NFL. Even though he fought them tooth and nail. But also, he laid down.

He also somehow shoehorned that into a hot take of how Brady made things "worse" for himself and NFLPA by continuing to fight, because this somehow gave Goodeall more power. Oh and he also lied and said Brady could have negotiated a 1-2 game suspension. Goodell made it very clear from the beginning: there was no "deal" to be made. Cringeworthy radio.

Unreal America
I had to turn it off in the 6 o'clock hour when they got into "What's wrong with USA basketball?! They should be winning by 25 every game!". Just the laziest, hot take garbage.

So I tuned in at the 6 o'clock hour and they played a crap ton of replays from past bits and interviews with Wallach cackling over Fred and Rich's laughter. I had to head into work where I can't listen but was that the whole gist of last night's show?

F&M still push this tooth and nail anytime they can.

Yeah, it sounds like was a fun time to see in person, but it's not really working on the radio. Oh well, they've earned a couple mornings off.

I just listened to the Adolfo Gonzalez segment. What a mess. He was completely plastered and couldn't even make it through the bit they set for him to do play by play for 3 quick segments.

Meanwhile, the rap battle was fun. Roche nailed it with the Revenge of the Nerds song.

To be fair Gary Myers who is as tapped into the NFL as anyone had this in an article about the Al-Jazeera report this morning.

Goodell would have cut Brady’s suspension down to two games at his appeal hearing last June if he didn’t find out Brady did the same to his phone as Goodell did to the Spygate tapes.

Solid interview w/ Josh Beckett and actually made me like him a bit more.

Shocked he came out and said flat out that the Sox invented his injury to get him on the DL to avoid Aaron Cook going to the Yankees, then left him out to dry with the media.

And I like that it's no just us fans who think the Sox (and Bruins too) leak negative info or stop supporting players when they're getting ready to ship them out. Clearly the players have noticed the pattern, he stated that pretty clearly with respect to the golfing accusations. He was a good soldier on that, and they threw him under the bus.

Great story. Too bad he never went on the DL.

Link is to Barstool's Carrabis column that details the situation.

I thought at the end he sounded like him. Fred and Rich seemed 100% sure it was him

It sounded to me like they were being sarcastic and playing it up. The laughs were totally different and Rich jokingly called it a "fingerprint".

I think T&R are hitting a nice stride again after a period where I felt like they got a little bored. Fred's been on his game over the last few weeks. I really enjoyed his reaction to Belichick shutting down Mike Reiss. He was correct, nuanced, and funny. I also really admire the team's ability to make fun content out of whatever - the "Brady call" being a prime example. They probably got an hour of funny material out of that throw-away joke.

Maybe my sarcasm meter was broken, or I didn't listen long enough that day, but i swear Fred thought it was real. He was talking about everyone tweeting and texting him, cited Dickerson texting him, etc. I didn't listen enough to Rich's response, but I swear I thought Fred thought it was Brady

I think that was just Fred being super dry, trying to pull dumb reactions out of other people. My impression of course - I generally think Fred's only being sincere when he's peeved. Otherwise he's just kind of playing around with people.

Heh. Fred and Rich are pissed, because Sean McDonough is no selling Gruden's bafoonery on MNF and ruining their weekly bits.

What do you think of the other members/weekly guests on the show? Like Nick taking over audio duties or Bird being, um... Bird?

Roche is always great but you can tell he gets burnt out after 8AM when he covers for the guys. Breer and Howe are always good interviews. Dave Richards is solid but they should have Lockhart come on the shows on Fridays to add more Fantasy talk.

Heh. Fred has so much internal hatred for the Pats. Refuses to give them any real credit for last night.
