"Broncos were never going to get much for DT based on age, contract and decline in play. 4th rounder best they could do. Still shopping LB Brandon Marshall and edge Shane Ray and could move a corner as well"

Either of those names would help the Patriots. I'd also consider Bradley Roby or Chris Harris if they are interested in moving a corner.

8 games of Tate for a 3rd is a bit steep... Not too bothered.
Eh. How often do 3rd round picks pan out relative to the marginal benefit that Tate gets you to or wins the Super Bowl? I tend to think teams dramatically overrate draft picks.

Tate is on the last year of his contract. If they don't re-sign him and don't make other free agent moves, the Eagles could theoretically get the 3rd round pick as a comp pick. I have a hard time seeing a minor step down from a late round 3rd to a 3rd round comp pick as too much to pay for half a year of a quality receiver.

0-3 to 4-3
That's a good point. I was thinking it worked like MLB and that no comp picks were awarded if player was traded in last year of the deal.

Okay, then I love the trade! Bring on the Pats!

Would the Patriots consider trading Josh Gordon in a trade for another WR if Belichick is actually unhappy with his tardiness?
If he was that unhappy it's hard to believe that Gordon would be playing almost every snap while Dorsett is stapled to the bench. Or that any team would want Gordon if they knew the Pats were already ready to move him.

So...

Gordon to Pats
Cooper to Cowboys
Thomas to Texans
Tate to Philly

I love this. Jeffery/Ertz/Tate is a hell of a trio. I like this move for Philly. Their offense needed another playmaker.

Scheftie just ran down what might be cooking. He doesn’t have the Pats in the kitchen.

Per NFL Network everyone on NYG is available except Barkley.

This is silly. Money doesn't work, ODB is a bad fit and the cost will be steep.

The obvious trade is Eli for Brady and a second round pick. Pats get younger at QB with a guy who can win big games and the Giants get a fading star to put butts in seats for the rest of the season.

There’s no way they can trade OBJ, his dead cap hit would be 40M.
A nit, because it's of no practical consequence. But the Giants would have to absorb an additional $16M hit to their cap, which is the remainder of his signing bonus (in addition to the $4M hit they already take this year). The receiving team gets to be on the hook for the remainder of ODB's $20M of guaranteed salary.

Jaguars are trading former first-round pick Dante Fowler to the LA Rams, per source.

Comp update:!Rams are trading a 2019 third-round pick and a 2020 fifth-round pick to Jaguars for DE Dante Fowler, per source.

Win-win. Brady would get re-united with Solder, and we'd finally get to see what Brady could do with a real running game.

Newton
Will anyone here be surprised four hours from now (it's 4pm EST, right?) when the deadline comes and goes and we don't get anyone at all, much less a "premium wide receiver"? I'd be more surprised if any of these actually *did* happen.
So, uh, yeah

I do wonder if we were in on Golden Tate until he went to the Eagles tho.

Certainly hope so. Sounds like they had legit interest in Demaryius and Tate but weren't going to go nuts. Don't really care about Demaryius but Tate would have been awesome in this offense.

I remain a little surprised that a single defensive piece wasn't added. Would be interesting to know who exactly was made available.

They could have traded a 3rd for Tate and got a comp 3rd back if Tate left.

do you really think he is going to sign a deal big enough to get them a third-round comp pick? Given his age I find this hard to believe.
He is 2 years younger than Jules and has lost 4 games to injury through an 8.5 yr NFL career. And he is productive.

We’ll live or die with what we have a WR. Eyes wide open and a principal risk is obvious.
