He is 2 years younger than Jules and has lost 4 games to injury through an 8.5 yr NFL career. And he is productive.

We’ll live or die with what we have a WR. Eyes wide open and a principal risk is obvious.

he will be 31 when the next season starts, and seeing there were only four third-round compensatory picks given out this year he would basically have to sign a Watkins type deal to be even in the conversation for such a pick. And of course Philly cannot sign anyone to a comparable deal.
now is the deal worth it even if he just gets a fourth or fifth round pick - my gut feeling is yes if he is as productive as he was in Detroit; but saying that you're basically just pushing the third rounder a year down the road is probably not realistic.

They could have traded a 3rd for Tate and got a comp 3rd back if Tate left.
For all we know the Pats did offer a third, and were outbid because an Eagles third is likely to be a better pick. To beat the Philly offer, Pats would’ve had to offer a third, plus...

Could’ve been a 7th for a 6th or something, but a 3rd doesnt beat the Eagles offer.

Pats have Detroit's 3rd round pick and don't have their own due to the Shelton trade so they could have beaten the Eagles' offer if they wanted to (currently #75 vs. #83). My guess would be that they wouldn't give up the 3rd for Tate.

Yes I believe he would.
And even if he wouldn’t command a contract sufficient to warrant a third, Pats would have a decent chance to extend him.

Again, we don’t know what deals they may have been in on. But this is a very solid transaction for Philly.
