Answer to the thread Question above: Who Cares? May the better team win. And the umps be good.

Questions: Is this the game thread? Also, how abnormal is this heat in late October for S. California?
California can warm up in October. I tell folks from back east that out here, October and August are switched. That much said, looks like LA broke its old record of 99F(1909), hit 104F today. Average high temp for this day is 78F in LA.

Warm up here in Oakland, too, mid 80s(F)

106 F at John Wayne airport. The humidity is only 8% and winds are gusting to 19 knots so typical Santa Ana wind conditions. I'm sure there a lot of puckered sphincters at CAL Fire headquarters.

I always root for the team that beats the Sox, and outside that, I go AL. Fast fan of Dave Roberts, but I’ve never been a Dodgers fan, just meh to me.
As long as it goes 7, I’m happy.

... and that's kind of stupid, because I don't know any baseball teams that play games at the airport
Okay, 102.5 F, 11% RH with winds from SSW gusting to 3.0 mph at weather station KCALOSAN662. That's the closest station to Dodger stadium that I can find. Happy now Al?

Edit: the weather radar also shows a squadron of Korean ICBMs heading this way so I wouldn't sweat the heat.

I find this interesting. Is it so you can argue the Sox are potentially the second best team?

I hope the Yankees are excluded from this rule.

What kind of Stockholm syndrome nonsense is that? You take solace in the belief that if the team that knocked your team out in an earlier round ends up going all the way, it's like your team made it to the World Series (and lost)?

Buck last night said that Kershaw was the best regular season pitcher to come along in a "long long time". So naturally, I got thinking. Kershaw has indeed been.....insanely good. As in historically good. How does he stack up against other greats?

Kershaw (2011-2017): 118-41 (.742), 2.10 era, 2.36 fip, 179 era+, 0.91 whip, 10.1 k/9
Pedro (1997-2003): 118-36 (.766), 2.20 era, 2.26 fip, 213 era+, 0.94 whip, 11.3 k/9
Randy Johnson (1997-2002): 120-42 (.741), 2.58 era, 2.63 fip, 177 era+, 1.07 whip, 12.3 k/9
Greg Maddux (1992-1998): 127-53 (.705), 2.15 era, 2.59 fip, 190 era+, 0.97 whip, 6.9 k/9
Felix Hernandez (2009-2014): 86-56 (.606), 2.73 era, 2.89 fip, 141 era+, 1.10 whip, 8.8 k/9
Max Scherzer (2013-2017): 89-33 (.730), 2.87 era, 2.90 fip, 144 era+, 0.99 whip, 10.9 k/9

Hard to see how Kershaw isn't the second best starting pitcher behind Pedro (I'm sooooo glad the numbers justified my Pedro bias) in the last 20 years. And you probably could take him all the way back to Palmer, Seaver, Koufax, Gibson as well.

I think the Astros have to be disappointed but not surprised to lose game 1. I think game 2 Verlander vs. Hill was always their best chance to steal a win early on.

I wonder if Larry King will be sitting behind the plate again tonight. I don't see too many Dodger's home games, so for all I know that may be his permanent seat. But for some reason I thought he was dead.
