  • 5/22 - Boston 3, Detroit 2 - 12 innings

As if tossing 12 innings of two-run ball weren't enough, Mel Parnell put a cap on his day with the game winning hit in extras. The single into left field scored Al Zarilla to give himself and the Red Sox the victory.

  • 5/24 - Boston 8, Detroit 7 - 10 innings

Earlier in the game, Bobby Doerr had homered to knot the score with Detroit. He then stepped to the plate in the 10th inning with the bases loaded and the Red Sox trailing by a run. The deficit didn't last as Doerr lashed a single to right chasing home two runs and securing the win for Boston.

  • 6/17 (1) - Boston 4, Chicago 3

The Red Sox pulled one out in the 9th when Johnny Pesky singled to start the rally, Ted Williams pushed him over to second on a walk, and Vern Stephens sent him homeward with a walkoff single.

  • 8/2 - Boston 4, St. Louis 3

If only they had footage of this one. With the bases loaded and nobody out Vern Stephens came to the plate while Dom DiMaggio stood on third. In what must have been a wild spectacle, Stephens had to duck out of the way of a Ned Garver pitch, inadvertently leaving his bat in the air. Rather alertly, DiMaggio scampered home with the deciding run as the ball bounded down the first base line.

  • 8/13 - Boston 5, Washington 1 - 12 innings

It took 12 innings to decide, but for Boston fans it was well worth the wait. With the sacks packed, Vern Stephens slugged a game winning grand slam for the Red Sox.
