Oakland Athletics (104-58) over Boston Red Sox (89-73)

For the second time in three years (1988 ALCS), the Oakland Athletics swept the Boston Red Sox 4 games to none. The sweep was capped by a Roger Clemens ejection in Game 4 for arguing balls and strikes. The Athletics, defending World Series champs, would go on to be swept by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1990 World Series.
