2008 Trading Block
Name Team Pos Age Deal + Link Notes
Infield
Richie Sexson Mariners 1B/DH 33 Your dream to trade for Sexson is now dashed. But if you want a corpse on your team, you can now take a flier on him, since he was released by the best team in the majors.
Mark Teixeira Atlanta Braves 1B/3B 28 Teixeira is a power, switch-hitting corner infielder with gold-glove defensive skills. In addition, he has shown ability to hit in the American League with his time in Texas. A free-agent at the end of the year, he could be traded if the Braves fall further out of contention. His acquisition by the Red Sox should be viewed as in addition to Manny and Ortiz, not replacing one or the other. It would probably make more sense to sign him as a free-agent and trade Lowell or Youk for prospects. The cost wouldn't be cheap, but it would eliminate the cost of prospects. He would give a great boost to the offense mid season, but being able to sign him to a longterm deal before he hits free agency would be the biggest advantage to trading for him. Don't be surprised if he's on the move by the trading deadline.
Outfield
Coco Crisp Red Sox CF
Adam Dunn Reds OF Comparison with Manny Here -->[1]. 28 yrs old. FA '09. High walks, Wicked high SO's. Less hits than Manny, but replaces power and rbi numbers. Almost makes sense to wait til FA to pickup, but could be a need this season.
Xavier Nady Pirates OF Pluses: Batting .900 OPS, nice numbers all around. REALLY Cheap. Negatives: Walks(23) less than Manny and Bay. Will regress.
Jason Bay Pirates OF Pluses: Batting .910 OPS, nice numbers. Walks(52) higher than Nady and Manny. Cheap. Negatives: Will regress.
Starting Pitchers
CC Sabathia Indians SP 28 [Traded to Brewers on 7/6/08]

Relief Pitchers
Brian Fuentes Rockies RP 32 .565 OPS versus LHH 2005-07. Three year trend of improved control, but falling dominance. Unlucky BABIP in 2008 has led to a spike in WHIP. Will have many teams interested in his services, especially Tampa Bay.
Ron Mahay Royals RP 37 .721 OPS versus LHH 2005-07. Dominance has fallen off in 2008, K/BB of less than 2.0 is scary to depend on.
