Overall Career
Albert Samuel Nipper (born April 2, 1959 in San Diego, CA) wore the number 49 for the Boston Red Sox as a right-handed starting pitcher. He currently wears the number 41 as the Red Sox bullpen/interim pitching coach. Since the departure of 1B Coach Lynn Jones, Nip has embraced his role as the most prominent mustachioed Red Sox.
Nipper was drafted in the 8th round of the 1980 Amateur Draft by the Boston Red Sox. He made his major league debut in 1983 and played for the Red Sox through the 1987 season. Nipper finished his major league career in 1990 with the Cleveland Indians. Over his career, he pitched in 144 regular season games, recording 381 strikeouts, a record of 46-50, and an ERA of 4.52.
