Amateur Career

At USC,he played in two College World Series. In his last year at the school he batted .363/.466/.637.

Pro Career

As a catcher, Concepcion is very conscientious in his work and the pitchers respond well to him. When Jonathan Papelbon was with the Sea Dogs, he said of Concepcion: "He is like a pitcher. He wants every pitch executed perfectly. When you get someone behind the plate like that, giving it all of their attention, all of their focus, that's the kind of guy you want." Coaches praise his character and skill at the position.

Unfortunately, he can't hit. Despite very promising numbers in college, Concepcion has been struggling as a pro hitter. His numbers are low and he has been inconsistent year-to-year. His hitting in 2006 has been better than 2005, but it still is far from impressive. If he can make significant improvements in his hitting, he will have a lot to offer.

Scouting Report
