The American League Championship Series is part of the playoffs. The winners of each divisional series face off in a 7 game series to see who will represent the American League in the World Series.

History
In 1969, Major League Baseball was reformatted to include the League Championship Series. It was originally a 5 game series and became a 7 game series in 1985. Typically, the ALCS leads to some great baseball.

Red Sox Appearances
The Red Sox have appeared in the ALCS 8 times.
- 1975: The Red Sox played against the Oakland Athletics. The Red Sox swept the Athletics.
- 1986: The Red Sox faced the California Angels. The Red Sox won the series 4-3.
- 1988: The Red Sox got swept by the Oakland Athletics 4-0.
- 1990: The Red Sox got swept again by the Athletics, 4-0.
- 1999: The Red Sox lost the series to the New York Yankees 4-1.
- 2003: The Yankees beat the Red Sox 4-3 on an Aaron Boone walkoff homerun in extra innings.
- 2004: The Red Sox became the first team to ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in the LCS (or any other postseason series in baseball history) to beat the Yankees 4-3. The Red Sox then went on to win the World Series.
- 2007: The Red Sox defeated the Cleveland Indians 4-3, overcoming a 3-1 deficit after Game 4 of the series. As they did in 2004, the Red Sox followed their ALCS comeback with a World Series victory.
