Andy Lee Tomberlin (born November 7, 1966 in Monroe, North Carolina) was a light-hitting outfielder who appeared in 18 games for the Boston Red Sox in 1994.

Overall Career

Signed as an amateur free agent by the Atlanta Braves in 1985, Tomberlin enjoyed a six-year career in the major leagues, playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1993), Boston Red Sox (1994), Oakland Athletics (1995), New York Mets (1996-1997) and Detroit Tigers (1998).

After his playing days ended, Tomberlin worked for the Milwaukee Brewers as a scout from 2001-2002, then as a hitting coach for their Single-A affiliate High Desert Mavericks in 2003. Since then, he has worked for the Chicago White Sox as a hitting coach for the Single-A affiliate Winston-Salem Warthogs in 2004-2005, the Double-A affiliate Birmingham Barons in 2006, and the Single-A affiliate Kannapolis Intimidators from 2007-present.

  • May 20, 1994: With Boston losing 21-1 to Minnesota, Tomberlin pitched the last 2 innings, allowing just 1 hit and no runs. [1]
  • May 30, 1994: Down 5-4 to the Kansas City Royals, Tomberlin smacked a pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game. The Red Sox end up winning the game 6-5 on a Damon Berryhill walk-off double to left. [2]
