Gilkey's Moments in the Sun
In his first game for the Red Sox on July 4, 2000, Gilkey went three for four with a solo home run, driving in four runs with his first three at bats in a Red Sox uniform. His RBI helped the Sox to a 14-4 win over the Twins in Minneapolis. Therafter, he proceeded to drive in five more runs in his next 98 plate appearances, during which he did not hit another home run.
Also, in this game, he joined Tyler Houston and Jeff Manto as the only players to score on a Manny Alexander home run as of then.
