Overall Career

Scales, a career minor-leaguer, was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 14th round of the 1999 draft. Having toiled away for seven seasons in the Padres minor league system, Scales spent 2006 at Philadelphia's Triple-A affiliate at Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, where he hit .291 with seven homers and 44 RBIs. A switch hitter with gap power, the Boston Red Sox signed Scales to a minor league contract on December 20, 2006.
