Overall Career

After getting signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Reds in 1996, Clark moved up the ladder quickly, earning 3 Minor League All-Star selections and was named Southern League Most Valuable Player in 1999. Along with the MVP honors, Clark won the batting title, hitting .326.

Clark made his major league debut in 2000, appearing in 11 games for Cincinnati as a late season call up. After splitting 2001 between Cincinnati and Triple-A Louisville, Clark was traded to the New York Mets in 2002 for Shawn Estes, where he was used primarily as a pinch-hitter and defensive replacement.

In January 2003, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed Clark off waivers from the Mets. His best season in the majors came in 2005 when he established career-highs in games (145), batting average (.306), hits (183), runs (94), doubles (31), home runs (13), RBI (53), slugging percentage (.426) and total bases (255).

Clark's breakout season earned him a two-year, $7 million deal with the Brewers. Following a down year in 2006, in which he hit .263/.348/.335, and with Milwaukee's influx of outfielders, Clark was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 26, 2007 for reliever Elmer Dessens. Used largely as a defensive replacement/pinch runner, he was released on June 20 and declared for free agency. The Red Sox signed Clark to a minor league contract on July 26.
