Overall Career

David Lee Henderson (born July 21, 1958 in Merced, CA) was a right-handed, power hitting outfielder who played in four World Series' in his 14 year career. Henderson's only World Series win came in 1989 with the Oakland Athletics. He enjoyed a long career beginning with the Seattle Mariners and then the Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, Athletics and Kansas City Royals. From 1986 through 1990, he was a memember of four American League Champion teams.

Moment in the Sun

  • Henderson hit a two-out, two-run homer for Boston in the top of the ninth inning of Game Five of the 1986 LCS with the California Angels one strike away from their first World Series appearance.
  • In the 1989 WS, Henderson hit home runs in consecutive innings in Game Three after just missing one in the first inning (a double off the railing).

Trivia

  • At the time of his trade to Boston, Henderson was Seattle's career leader in home runs and was tied for the team lead in XBH.
  • Henderson was traded to the Giants on September 1, 1987 for Randy Kutcher. The reason was to make room for rookie Ellis Burks.
