David Ross was briefly a member of the 2008 Red Sox.

Early Career

David was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 7th round of the 1998 draft. He worked his way up the Dodgers farm system and debuted in the summer of 2002. He functioned as a backup catcher and bat off the bench for a number of different squads over the next 5 years.

His breakout year was in 2006, when he hit 21 home runs in 296 plate apperrances to help the Cincinnati Reds to a surprising 80-82 record. Ross's power surge moderated the next year, but he remained an integral part of the Reds as a part time catcher and bat off the bench.

From Rivercity to the Red Sox

In 2008, the Reds released Ross in August. The Red Sox then signed him as a free agent. The Sox used him largely as a late-inning replacement during September. His only hit as a member of the Old Towne Team came in a blowout loss against the Rangers on September 6, 2008. Ross appeared in one playoff game during the 2008 season, Game 3 of the 2008 ALDS, but did not record a plate appearance.

Moment in the Sun

On September 26, 2006, Ross took Dontrelle Willis yard twice in one game to give the Reds a 5-3 win and keep Cincinnati nominally in the playoff chase.
