Scouting Report

  • Britton's fastball sits around 92 mph, tops out at 94, and has some good life to it. Able to maintain velocity well. Also makes use of a plus 77 mph 12/6 curve, that has the potential to be a plus plus pitch. Has an 80 mph changeup that isn't well developed, as well as an improving slider. Three quarter delivery. Control and command are inconsistent. When he gets flustered he can show his pitches too much. Overall, Britton is an advanced pitcher relative to his HS draft class. High ceiling. ~ SoxProspects.com
  • Britton fills the profile of a young lefthander who is already advanced for his age, but has a considerable ceiling with lots of projection in the future, as well. He complements his low-90s fastball with a filthy breaking ball. ~ Baseball America
  • Britton is an Aflac All-American from the same Texas high school that produced another Aflac lefthander, the Astros’ Troy Patton, in 2003. The two are similar in talent and pitching style. Britton has a high-energy, multi-part delivery that he repeats well and lends deception to his pitches. His best pitch is a 75 mph curveball that gets hard downer break. Britton has an advanced feel for moving the pitch around and changing the break and velocity. His fastball is comfortable around 90 mph and will touch 92. Britton knows how to pitch and has good command of both his primary pitches.

Amateur Career

  • As a sophomore, Drake made two appearances for a talented Tomball team, winning both times on the mound.
  • As a junior, Drake helped Tomball High (TX) to a national ranking during the season. He went 9-2 with a 1.34 ERA, 84 strikeouts and 37 walks in 60 innings.

Amateur Awards

  • 2006 Aflac All-American

Minor League Career

  • 2007: Britton was selected by Boston in the 23rd round of the 2007 Amateur Draft, but due to his late signing that summer, he was not assigned to a team.
