Scouting Report
- Converted from catcher to a pitcher in July 2004 after unimpressive numbers at the plate. The transition to pitching has shown signs of success at lowers levels in late 2004 and 2005, but has stalled against advanced hitting. Fastball sits in the mid-90s and reaches 97 mph with good movement. Two-seamer sits around 91. His secondary pitches, including a changeup and slider, are still well below par after a few years of development. Needs to keep command consistent, has given up too many home runs leaving the ball up in the zone. ~ SoxProspects.com

Trivia
- He suggested his nickname, El Guapo Jr, in a Portland Sea Dogs radio interview in late 2005 in deference to his fellow countryman, Rich Garces. They both come from Venezuela, they played the same position of reliever, and share a similar physical characteristic of being bigger than your average ball player.
