Gary was drafted from the Red Sox in the second round of the 1968 expansion draft by the Seattle Pilots. He started their home opener on April 11, 1969 at Sicks Stadium and shut out the Chicago White Sox 7-0 in a complete game performance. Bell also doubled in the game driving in two runs.[edit]
