Scouting Report
- Outfielder with five-tool potential who plays the game at full tilt. Raw power and above average speed. Strikes out a ton and struggles a lot with off-speed pitches. Top notch defensive outfielder - strong arm with excellent range, gets a good jump on balls hit out to center. The organization plans to keep Place in CF for the indefinite future. Place is making a lot of adjustments to the Red Sox hitting philosophies in his first few years in the organization, particularly putting a lot of work towards improving his swing and his plate discipline. His development is coming along slowly but surely, and his swing is looking better as time goes on. However, even in 2008 his swing is still long and lacks fluidity. Place is a super-confident player, and that has reportedly rubbed teammates the wrong way in the past. However, his teamwork skills are said to be improving. Overall, he's going to have to get the bat on the ball more and cut his strikeout numbers down significantly if he wants to make the grade at higher levels. ~ SoxProspects.com
