Javier López Torres (born November 5, 1970 in Ponce, Puerto Rico), is better known as Javy López. Acquired by the Red Sox with cash via a trade for a mid-level prospect PTBNL (Adam Stern) on August 4, 2006 to replace the injured Jason Varitek. He was released by the Sox just over a month later (on September 8) after only 18 games with the team.
In his limited action in Boston, Lopez hit an anemic .190/.215/.270 with five doubles and 4 RBI. He struck out 16 times in 63 at-bats.

Overall Career
Signed by the Atlanta Braves in 1987 as an amateur free agent, López made his debut on September 18, 1992 against the New York Mets. After sharing duties with Charlie O'Brien and Eddie Pérez for four seasons, he established himself as the Braves regular catcher in 1996.
López enjoyed his best season in 2003, batting .328/.378/.687 with 43 home runs, 29 doubles and 109 RBI. In that season he broke Todd Hundley's record for most home runs hit in a season by a catcher (42). Before the 2004 season, López signed as a free agent with Baltimore.
The Colorado Rockies signed López to a one-year, $750,000 non-guaranteed contract on January 7, 2007. He was released by the Rockies on March 12, 2007.

- Married the former Gina Brodbeck on 6/23/04. His first wife, Analy, is a model.
