Overall Career

Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1992, McEwing enjoyed his best season as a rookie in 1999, batting .275/.333/.398 with a 25-game hitting streak and career highs in hits (141), runs (65), doubles (28), triples (4), home runs (9) and RBI (44).

Prior to the 2000 season, the Cardinals traded McEwing to the New York Mets in exchange for reliever Jesse Orosco. After five seasons with the Mets, appearing at every position except catcher, McEwing signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Royals at the end of spring training in 2005 to provide extra infield insurance.

"Super Joe" spent 2006 in the Houston organization, batting .315 with ten homers and 46 RBIs in 112 games at Triple-A Round Rock and going hitless in six at-bats over seven games with the Astros. The Boston Red Sox signed McEwing to a minor league contract on November 30, 2006. He is a .251 career hitter with 25 homers and 158 RBIs in 754 games in the majors.

Through the first 11 games of 2007 at Pawtucket, McEwing is hitting .286/.316/.429 with 1 home run and a team-high 5 RBI.
