Tartabull's Moments in the Sun

  • Without question, Tartabull's greatest "moment in the sun" came on August 27, 1967 in a critical game between the Red Sox and White Sox. Tartabull made an incredible throw from RF to Elston Howard at the plate to nail Ken Berry trying to score. The game was pivotal in the Red Sox drive to the pennant.
    • Years later (in 2001 to be exact), that famous throw became a "character" of sorts in a young adults, fiction novel entitled "Tartabull's Throw" written by Henry Garfield.
  • April 29, 1967: Pinch hitting for Mike Andrews in the bottom of the 15th, Jose singles up the middle, scoring Tony Conigliaro from 3rd as the Sox beat the Kansas City A's, 11-10. For the first time in four years they are in 1st place after 10 games.
  • Tartabull played in all seven games of the 1967 World Series (leading off and playing RF in three of them).
