Josh Reddick (born February 19, 1987 in Guyton, GA), was drafted by the Red Sox in the 17th Round, 523rd pick of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft. Originally drafted with the intent to have him be a draft and follow, but he excelled in a game against the US Junior National Team and their pitcher, Ross Detweiler (6th overall pick in the 2006 draft), and so the Sox signed him to $140,000 bonus.

Scouting Report

  • Josh Reddick can put the bat on the ball. He's a contact hitter with a quick bat and very good present power. He keeps his hands high in his stance and is basically a line drive hitter. He also creates good lift on the ball when he turns on it. An aggressive hitter at the plate, he needs to improve his plate discipline. He swings at a lot of balls off the plate, and he can also get pull-happy on occasion. Has shown some resistances to the Sox disciplined approach. Listed at 6-2, 180, both may be generous, as he appears smaller in person. However, his frame is athletic and lean, with a potential to fill out. If he adds strength to his wiry frame, there's not much of a limit on his power potential. In the field, Reddick has above average range to go along with excellent arm strength and outstanding accuracy. Great hustle, always goes all out. Reads the ball well coming off the walls. Can play all three OF positions well, probably best suited for RF ~ SoxProspects.com
