Overall Career
A career journeyman, Manzanillo compiled a 13-15 record and 4.71 ERA with 6 saves in 11 Major League seasons with the Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds and Florida Marlins. He also played in the minors with Kansas City, Houston and Tampa Bay.
Manzanillo's career came full circle in 2005 when the Red Sox signed him to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Failing to make the team out of spring training, Manzanillo was released and later signed with the Puebla Parrots of the Mexican League.
Steroids
Manzanillo was named in the December 13, 2007 Mitchell Report on performance enhancing drugs in baseball. According to former clubhouse attendant and admitted steroids distributer Kirk Radomski, when he was working for the Mets in 1994, Manzanillo asked Radomski to inject him with the steroid Deca-Durabolin that Manzanillo provided. Radomski did so in the Mets clubhouse. Radomski said that this was the only instance in which he actually observed a major league player using steroids.
