Overall Career
Kenneth Frederick Ryan Jr. (born October 24, 1968 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island) was a former closer for the Boston Red Sox. Signed as an amateur free agent by the Red Sox out of Seekonk High School in 1986, Ryan made his major league debut in 1992, appearing in seven games and recording one save. His best season came in 1994 when he posted a 2.44 ERA with a career-high and team-high 13 saves.
Ryan was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in 1996 as part of the Heathcliff Slocumb deal. In his eight-year career, Ryan finished with a 14-16 record and 30 saves with a 3.91 ERA in 285.2 innings. He now runs the Ken Ryan Baseball Academy in his hometown of Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
