Overview
The Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) consists of 8 teams, half within an hour of Seoul. The Korean teams play a 133 game schedule from April to September, from which four teams make the playoffs.
The playoff series is different in Korea than it is in other countries. First, the fourth place team plays the third best team in a best-of-three series. Then, the winner of that series plays the second place team in a best-of-five. Finally, the winner of the best-of-five plays the first place team in a best-of-seven series known as the Korean Series. The winningest team to this point has been the Kia Tigers, having won nine Korean Series titles. The only team never to have won a Korean Series has been the SK Wyverns.
Korean baseball has suffered in attendance in recent years, largely stemming from the increased popularity of Japanese and American baseball and Korean players' propensity to jump to one of these two leagues.
