Definition

LOOGY is short for "Lefty One-Out Guy". A LOOGY is a left-handed reliever who is especially adept at retiring lefty batters (and not much else). Since a LOOGY fares poorly against righties, he is often only in the game to retire a specific lefty batter or batters. Think Mike Myers. Either Javier Lopez or J.C. Romero will likeley fill the LOOGY role in the 2007 Boston pen.

Trivia

  • Terry Francona likes to have a LOOGY in his bullpen
  • Also referred to as a "Situational Lefty"
  • Opposite of ROOGY
