Los Angeles has been the home city for two major league teams in the American League and National League:

  • The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are current members of the American League West and have been a major league team since 1961. They have previously been known as the Los Angeles Angels (1961-1964), California Angels (1965-1996), and Anaheim Angels (1997-2004).
  • The Los Angeles Dodgers are current members of the National League West and have been a major league team since 1884. They previously played in Brooklyn, most notably as the Brooklyn Dodgers and Brooklyn Robins from 1911-1957.
