Overall Career
Mark Brandenburg was born on July 14, 1970 and debuted for the Texas Rangers on July 20, 1995. Brandenburg's career did not start off well, and when the Rangers sought after missing pieces for a 1996 playoff run he was shipped up to Boston with Kerry Lacy in return for Playoff Stud Mike Stanton and a PTBNL.
Following the 1997 season, the Red Sox found themselves in rebuilding mode. Mark Brandenburg found himself reverting back to his pitching ability that can described as less than stellar. Just before acquiring Pedro Martinez from Montreal, the Red Sox sent Brandenburg with Aaron Sele and Bill Haselman to the Texas Rangers in return for Jim Leyritz and Damon Buford. The acquisition of 34 year old Jim Leyritz made little sense as the Red Sox had two catchers under 30 with Scott Hatteberg and Jason Varitek. It would come as no surprise that Leyritz wouldn't last the season with the Red Sox.
Mark Brandenburg would never appear in another major league ballgame, nor any minor league games. His career was traded to Texas, but it never continued.
Brandenburg's Moments in the Sun
Mark Brandenburg would strike out the side in only one of his appearances for the Red Sox in 1996. Unfortunately, the three strikeouts came between a single, double, intentional walk, grand slam, and another walk in a 13-5 loss to the White Sox on September 14, 1996.
