Overall Career

Mark Alan Clear (born May 27, 1956 in Los Angeles, CA), was a righthanded reliever and "closer" whose biggest claim to Red Sox fame is likely the fact that he came to the team in a blockbuster 1980 trade, along with Carney Lansford and Rick Miller, for Rick Burleson and Butch Hobson. He played for the sox for five years before being traded yet again, this time for Easy Ed Romero, to the Milwaukee Brewers, back when they were an American League team. He played his last game in 1990, but put together a decent career befor that, despite the fact that he was released by the Phillies just a year after he was drafted in the eighth round of the 1974 draft. He ended up with just shy of one strikeout per inning pitched (really, just, just shy - 804 Ks in 804.3 innings) and finished up with a 71 and 49 record, good for an impressive .592 winning percentage, to go with 83 saves. He won a game for the Angels in the 1979 ALCS, and was an All-Star that year, along with 1982. In fact, in 1979 he finished 19th in the MVP voting. He was 11-5, with 14 saves that year, throwing 109 innings in 52 appearances. Clear picked up a large amount of decisions for a reliever, going 11-11, for instance, in 1980, without starting a single game. He wore number 25 for the Sox, from 1981 though 1985, having his best year in 1982, when he won 14 games against 9 losses and struck out 109 in 105 innings.
