Baldomero Almada "Melo" Quiros was born on February 7, 1913, in Huatabampo, Sonora, Mexico. Almada was 20 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 8, 1933, with the Boston Red Sox. Almada had a 7-year career as an out fielder. In 646 games he batted. 284 with 15 HR and 197 RBI. He batted lead-off for Washington at the beginning of his career, and his best year was in 1938 when he led the AL in singles with 158.
