Overall Career
Throughout his career, Cairo has been considered generally an above average defensive infielder. His ability with the glove has not been able to mask his futility at the plate however, and he has been shipped from team to team. He has been traded four times in his career, and played for eight different organizations a total of ten different times.
Moment in the Sun
Cairo may be best remembered among Red Sox fans for hitting what he believed to be a home run to left field in Yankee Stadium during September, 2004. Cairo, while circling the bases, did not see Manny Ramirez soar above the fence to snag the ball, robbing Cairo and keeping the score at 2-1, New York. The Red Sox would later overcome Mariano Rivera in the ninth inning, notching another victory during their magical run to the Wild Card.
