Michael John Burns (born July 14, 1978 in Westminster, California) is a right-handed relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox.

Overall Career

Selected in the 30th round of the 2000 amateur draft by the Houston Astros, Burns made his major league debut in 2005, recording a 4.94 ERA in 31 innings with no record.

The Cincinnati Reds claimed Burns off waivers on November 16, 2005. He was traded to Boston for minor leaguer Tim Bausher on August 28, 2006 and was called up from Pawtucket to the major-league team the next day. Burns went on to appear in 7 games, posting a 4.70 ERA in 7.3 innings.

On February 6, 2007, the Red Sox announced that Burns will be invited to Spring Training as a non-roster invite.
