Overall Career

Mike Lansing (born April 3, 1968 in Rawlins, Wyoming) played 2B/SS for the Boston Red Sox for parts of 2000 and 2001. He was originally drafted in the 9th round of the 1989 amateur draft by the Baltimore Orioles, but did not sign. He was later drafted by the Miami Miracle, a team in the Florida State league, in the 6th round of the 1990 amateur draft. Although he didn't see Major League playing time until 1993, his contract was sold to the Montreal Expos on September 18, 1991.

Lansing was bounced around twice after coming up, traded by the Montreal Expos to the Colorado Rockies for Jake Westbrook, John Nicholson, and Mark Hamlin on November 18, 1997, and finally traded by the Colorado Rockies with Rolando Arrojo, Rich Croushore, and cash to the Boston Red Sox for Jeff Frye, Brian Rose, John Wasdin, and Jeff Taglienti. In 2001, Lansing was granted free agency and spent some time in the Cleveland Indians farm system before retiring in 2002.

Steroids

Lansing was named in the December 2007 Mitchell Report on performance enhancing drugs in baseball. According to former clubhouse attendant and admitted steroids distributer Kirk Radomski, he was introduced to Lansing by David Segui while Segui and Lansing played together with the Expos. Radomski recalled that he engaged in four to five “small transactions” with Lansing. Radomski said that Lansing was familiar with testosterone and “knew exactly what he wanted.”

Trivia

  • Lansing hit for the cycle by the 4th inning on June 18, 2000 in a 19-2 Colorado Rockies win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He hit an RBI triple in the 1st, a 2-run home run in the 2nd, a 2-run double in the 3rd, and a single in the 4th.[3]. In doing so, he became the only native of Wyoming to ever hit for the cycle.
