Franchise History
The Oakland Raiders are a member of the National Football League (NFL). They currently play in the Western Division of the American Football Conference (AFC). The Raiders began play in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League, before joining the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. The team moved to Los Angeles in 1982, but returned to Oakland in 1995.
