Overall Career

Drafted in the first round in 2000, Dumatrait features a low-90's fastball and an above-average curve. As part of the purge that took place when GM Theo Epstein replaced Dan Duquette, Dumatrait was sent to Cincinnati for reliever Scott Williamson, who would prove to be instrumental to the success of the 2003 Red Sox, serving as the team's closer.

Dumatrait missed the 2004 season following Tommy John surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. He spent most of 2005 at Double-A Chattanooga where ranked among the Southern League leaders in ERA (3.17, 4th), losses (12, 3rd) and walks (70, 3rd).

After starting 2006 at Chattanooga, where he was teammates with Rick Asadoorian, the Red Sox 1st Round pick in 1999, Dumatrait was promoted to Triple-A Louisville on June 5, finishing with a 5-7 record and a 4.72 ERA in 15 starts and 1 relief appearance.

Dumatrait made his major league debut with the Cincinnati Reds on August 2, 2007 against the Washington Nationals. He lasted only 3.1 innings, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts and picked up the loss.
