Drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 11th round of the 1987 Amateur Draft, Phil Plantier (born January 27, 1969 in Manchester, New Hampshire) made his Red Sox debut on August 21, 1990 and was traded to the San Diego Padres on December 9, 1992.

Overall Career

An 11th round draft pick in 1987 by the Boston Red Sox, Phil Plantier was selected as the Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year in 1990 when he hit 33 homeruns in 409 at-bats at Triple-A Pawtucket. He was called up to the Red Sox in August of 1990. Despite an impressive rookie campaign, in which he clubbed 11 home runs in 148 at bats and hit .331, he was traded in 1992 to the San Diego Padres in exchange for Jose Melendez.

Plantier spent 11 years as a professional baseball player, including parts of eight seasons in the Major Leagues (1990-97). His most productive year was in 1993 as a member of the San Diego Padres, when he clubbed 34 homeruns and collected 100 RBIs.
