Overall Career

Phil Seibel began his career as an 8th round pick of the Montreal Expos in the 2000 draft out of the University of Texas. Seibel was assigned to Class A Jupiter in 2001 where he excelled as a starting pitcher, winning 10 games as a 22 year old. Following the 2001 season, Seibel was traded by the Expos with Scott Strickland and Matt Watson to the New York Mets for Dicky Gonzalez, Luis Figueroa, Bruce Chen and Saul Rivera. Seibel was assigned to Class AA Binghamton where he again did well as a starter winning 10 games and striking out 114 batters. Seibel returned to Binghamton in 2003 and won 5 games in 17 starts before being promoted to AAA Norfolk for the remainder of 2003. Placed on Waivers following 2003, the Boston Red Sox claimed Seibel on November 20th of that year. Seibel opened up the 2004 season in Pawtucket being activated by Boston on April 15th filling the role left by Bobby Jones and he made his debut that evening aganist the Baltimore Orioles facing 2 batters in his debut and getting no record on the linescore. He would pitch 1 more game for the Sox in 2004 (noted in his Moment in the Sun) before going on rehab assignments and undergoing Tommy John Surgery late in the year. He returned in 2006, pitching at all three minor league levels.

On December 15, 2006, the Red Sox traded Phil Seibel to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for right-handed reliever Brendan Donnelly.
