Franchise History
The franchise opened up shop in 1988 as the Princeton Pirates, a new Rookie-level affiliate for the Pittsburgh Pirates. They were renamed the Princeton Patriots in 1990 after the Pirates abandoned the club, and received help for the year from the Philadelphia Phillies, receiving 18 players and a manager. The team became the Princeton Reds in 1991 when the Cincinnati Reds picked them up. In 1997, they were transferred to the expansion Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Although the big club was changed to the Tampa Bay Rays for 2008, there are no plans for the Princeton club to follow suit.
