Scouting Report

  • Fantastic athlete - Dent possesses a good bat and phenomenal speed. Good leadoff potential. With his compact swing, he hits the ball well to all fields and is a superb base runner. Good strength for his size and speed. May be better suited for 2B, but has the range to play CF. In the field, Dent has an average arm and excellent range, but his glove and his instincts may keep him from being a SS long-term. While Dent possesses great tools, he is a little more raw than a lot of others in his HS draft class. ~ SoxProspects
  • With a strong bat and even better speed, Dent will be a very intriguing prospect for many teams. Athletes like this don’t grow on trees and Dent has shown the ability to hit to all fields and use his speed to wreak havoc on the basepaths. He may not be a middle infielder long-term, but many feel he’s athletic enough to handle a move to the outfield if needed. ~ MiLB.com
  • A tremendous athlete with a good bat and great speed. A spray hitter, who has potential for gap power. Eventually may be moved to 2B based upon his average arm stength.

Amateur Career

Dent was one of the nation's best middle infield prospects who capped his four-year varsity career with a .468 average, seven triples, seven doubles, 28 stolen bases and an unbelievable 30-7 walk-strikeout ratio.

During high school Dent verbally comitted to UCLA, but stated his willingness to forgoe that scholarship. Rated by Baseball America as the 46th best prospect for the 2007 Draft, and 50th overall by PGcrosschecker.com.
