Membership Status

By default, you are an 'Unsubscribed' member. Unsubscribed members are members who have not purchased a subscription. With an Unsubscribed account you will have the same posting rights as lurkers but be granted read access to all of our forums. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to purchase a subscription - this is necessary to help defray the costs of running our own server and various monthly fees we pay to run this joint. This stuff isn't cheap!

A few words of advice on posting

Keep the use of emoticons to a minimum.

Keep the use of emoticons to a minimum.
  • Before making your first post, take some time to get a feel for the board and the members. Making yourself stand out from the beginning generally doesn't go over very well. Those that jump in with both feet and submit a dozen posts in their first day, or post in a manner not in touch with the board's standards, don't make a great impression.
  • Give thought to each post you make, especially in the Red Sox forum. Sometimes the best posts are the ones you don't make. Before you submit your post, ask 'Is this adding anything to the discussion?' If the answer is no, there's no harm in 'unposting'. Post counts mean nothing here.
  • Likewise, before posting a new topic, be sure it isn't already being discussed elsewhere. Read through the first page of recent topics to make sure what you are about to discuss is, in fact, new. Also, take the time to decide if the topic is worthy of discussion.
  • While we do want you to exhibit some discretion in posting a new topic, it is preferred that you start new threads rather than steering an existing one off topic.
  • Don't treat the boards like a chat room. We have a place to chat if that is what you wish to do.
  • Profanity or anything NSFW are not allowed on the main board, signatures or avatars.
  • SoSH has a warning system in place, though there are various transgressions that can get you immediately banned. Purchasing a subscription does not buy you amnesty.
  • Game threads are to be started after midnight on gameday. If the team wins, the member with that game's thread continues to start the game threads until the team loses. The next available game thread goes to whomever starts the first thread after midnight.

Contributing

We'd like all of our members to contribute to the site. Here's some tips on how to do so:

  • Add something of substance to the main board regularly. If you find yourself spending all of your time in the off-topic forums and in chat, you may want to find your way back to the main board to contribute there as well.
  • Contribute to the wiki. Find an area that interests you and add to the article (or create one if it doesn't exist). Even if the article is fairly well-developed, there is always room for improvement.

Questions?

SoSH has a 'Backwash' forum for feedback and certain types of questions. In general, the best way to ask a question or raise a concern is by sending a personal message to one of the moderators. They can be identified by the title of 'Dope', 'Moderator' or 'Geek' next to their user name, and their user names appear in red at the bottom of the main page.
