Franchise History
The Staten Island Yankees were brought to Staten Island in 1999 in a deal brokered by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. Before coming to Staten Island the team, known as the Watertown Indians, was located in Watertown, New York as an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The Yankees played their first two seasons at College of Staten Island Baseball Complex on the campus of the College of Staten Island before moving into the Richmond County Bank Ballpark after its construction for the 2001 season.
