Overall Career
Tony Hemiphere Blanco (born November 10, 1981 in San Juan de la Maguana, D.R.), was signed by Boston on July 2, 1998 out of the Dominican Republic. He slugged 8 homers with a .462 slugging percentage in the 1999 DSL. The next season in the GCL, he led the league with a .382 average and 13 homers, earning a late season promotion to Lowell. At season's end he was ranked by Baseball America as Boston's #3 prospect, #87 overall in baseball. In 2001 in low A ball, he batted a respectable .265, with 17 homers, but with only 17 walks and 78 ks. That earned him a #2 ranking on Baseball America's listing of Boston prospects, #93 overall in baseball. Promoted to high A ball in 2002, he hit only .221, but with significant power.
