Im not going to be negative about this team. Thank you guys. The 10th AFC title team in 15 years has given me a lot to be happy about. Gronk, Jules, and Tom have given me more to be happy about to be too sad today. Every starter is signed for next year and Solder and Lewis come off IR. It wasn't their day and I'm sad about that, but 4 Super Bowl titles softens the blow. Denver was the better team and nothing else needs to be said.

Co-sign. Tough loss, but the team that played better won. Run it back next year.

Even at their worst, like today, this team never gives up and fights until the very last second. Brutal disappointment but I can't be anything but grateful for this run.

I expect I'll be one of many to also co-sign. Great team, battled through injuries without making excuses, came ever-so-close to the final two - expectations are high for our team this millennium, but we should appreciate the greatness that is.

3rd or 4th best team in football this year, plenty to be proud of. Just couldn't overcome Peyton, but that puts the team in pretty damn good company.

Enjoyed the hell out of this team. Just couldn't hang on when their line depth was depleted, but that's the story of every team.

Tough finish. I finally have calmed down. The o-line struggled but it's still s young team with grind, Edelman, and Lewis coming back. The D looks great going forward, if the health is ok, then they are fine. A top four finish every year is tough to argue... It still hurts but four rings overcome that I suppose

I love how they compete, even when nothing is working. Today, the other team played better and that's a bummer, but the Pats have no reason to hang their head. We are lucky to have them this year to follow, and exponentially more fortunate to have them over these past 15 years.

Well, yeah. Only the Steelers and Niners have had comparable runs in the post-merger era.

I'll be gracious and extend a "congratulations" to 86spike and J-man. They've been cool and informative Broncos fans that have contributed well to this forum.

Also, I hope your team gets absolutely crushed in SB L.

Well said, RedOctober. It sucks to lose, but this team just kept fighting until the final whistle. And holy shit how about Gronk fighting through cramps and dehydration to put together a monster final drive?

And the best part is, instead of watching ESPN and NFL Network the next two weeks, I'm actually going to try to lead an interesting and productive life. That should be fun.

Brutal loss, I'm ill right now, but an amazing team. To play through all those injuries was pretty impressive. Just losing to Manning, well, hurts.

I'll second the congrats to the Broncos. They're flawed in some respects, but made the plays they needed to all year long, and their D came up big today.

As for the Pats, a great ride as usual. The world is going to look a whole lot different when going to the AFCCG isn't automatically pencilled in as a yearly event...

They didn't lose to manning. They lost to that defense. Denver's defense is for real and their pass rush is amazing. Probably not the same next year but whoa they are impressive.

My brother and father live in Vermont and I in upstate New York. We've been using FaceTime to chat with each other as we watch the Pats games every Sunday. That's eighteen afternoons we've spent watching the team play. They didn't always win, but they came close, and we had a blast watching them together. I'm not sure how many more years we'll be able to see them together.

Thanks, Patriots.

Congratulations to the Pats for getting as far as they did despite such a rash of injuries and a depleted offensive line. Looking forward to next season already.

My 12 year old was not old enough to really fathom the heart breakers against NY, but really grasped the shitty day today. I told him he is now officially a new englander today. Good season but they just did not have it today.

Surprised to see Manning dismissed so easily. He dissected the Patriots defense on two touchdowns. As a fan of neither team, I thought he was the difference in the game and it was nice to see one of (if not the) best at his position all-time have a legendary performance in a huge game.

The Pats didn't do everything right today, and they didn't come out ahead on the scoreboard. But it sure feels like they did everything they could, and that makes me feel good about this team and largely at peace with the outcome.

Excerpt below from Friday Night Lights sums it up for me...

To me, being perfect is not about that scoreboard out there. It's not about winning. It's about you and your relationship to yourself and your family and your friends.

Being perfect is about being able to look your friends in the eye and know that you didn't let them down, because you told them the truth. And that truth is that you did everything that you could. There wasn't one more thing that you could've done.

Can you live in that moment, as best you can, with clear eyes and love in your heart? With joy in your heart?

If you can do that gentlemen, then you're perfect.

Worst playoff game since one of the Baltimore losses and still would have gone to OT without a XP fluke. We almost always find a way to make it a play or two away in the playoffs. Meanwhile, I'm sure many think Denver will get blown out by Carolina... I still think they're a mentally soft team.

We should be the AFC favorites again, so let's have better injury luck next year and get it done.

I get that you are trolling, but, well, don't. 17 of 32 for 176 yards is not dissecting. The Broncos deserved to win the game because their defense played incredible and Manning didn't make the mistakes that Brady did. Hats off to them, but don't hang this win on Manning if you don't want to be the fool/troll.

This is a magnificent team led by the greatest QB of all time. Before this year I would not have said that about Brady, but watching what he did with such a depleted team, my God I am more impressed with him this year than ever before.

They never, ever, quit. They never, ever, make excuses. They are the epitome of what a professional sports franchise should be. They represent my home town with class and heart and effort. They are led by the greatest coach of all time. Losing one game on a last second two point conversion will do nothing to take away the admiration I have for this team and how they represent my region. I am most fortunate to be a fan.

And if the haters all laugh it up tonight, fuck 'em. They don't have a clue.

Agreed. There was a stretch in this game where Manning and the Broncos had -1 yards in four series. The Pats defense played great. To be honest, it came down to the Broncos making a few defensive plays. The offense didn't do much, and manning even less....

It was a very good season undone by injuries and an offensive line they could never fix. AFC championship is nothing to sneeze at. Sucks all the more they got fucked by the league for the imaginary deflategate.

To quote from a great moment from another outstanding (if fictional) team, and then add an emphasizing piece of profanity, allow me to channel my Inner Coach Dale: "I fuckin' love you guys."

The biggest issue is the loss of a first round pick. The depth on the o-line that they could get at that pick is a huge impact long term.

Thanks for the injection of positivity. I've been a Boston fan for a long time and I never, in my wildest dreams, thought I'd have a team as great as the 2000 - 2015 Pats to root for. It has been a profound treat.

I have to sign on to the thank you, Patriots. This team has given us many enjoyable Sundays for the past 15 years or so. While today's loss hurts, the effort at the end of this game was amazing. Thank you, Patriots.

Agreed with every word.

It's such a pleasure to watch this team. Especially if you're one of us who spent several decades following an organization that didn't even feel like a legitimate NFL member club.

For whatever reason, I'm not as devastated as I thought I would be. No goats in this game except Rob Gronkowski who is the other kind of GOAT - who even while not 100% was the only reason the Patriots were competitive. I'm more upset that the Pats don't have a 1st and a 4th in the draft.

Would have loved for a chance in OT and a place in the Super Bowl but I am so appreciative of this team for their smarts, effort and guts.

Rereading I know it's because of the victory in Super Bowl 49. Maybe the horror of knowing that GRONK was open for the 2 point conversion will start haunting me in the middle of the night.

The cradle of the game.
Thank you Patriots, enjoy a much deserved break. After the past 52 weeks, we could all use one.

My daughter had the line of the night, "Dad, I think it's nice they will let another team win the Super Bowl this year." She thinks it's up to the Patriots to decide who wins the Super Bowl because, well, that's pretty much how it's been her entire life.

Our predicament... it's not a bad place to be. Even tonight.

I thought the team showed so much poise on the final drive that it took most of the sting out of the loss for me. It's such a privilege to watch and root for this team each season, even on off days like today. Looking forward to next season and the innovations they incorporate.

A lot of things could have easily broken their way this season or this game and I'm frustrated but this is how football works. Even the really really good seasons usually end this way and frankly it makes it a little easier that Denver's defense was great today. But rooting for the Patriots is just incredibly fun, if also stressful, and getting to watch your own team play in late January is something I never take for granted. We are all very lucky to have had, and continue to have, Belichick, Brady and Kraft.

Couldn't overcome Peyton? More like couldn't overcome the Denver defense. They deserve all the credit. What a ferocious group they are.
Knowing him, you can safely assume sarcasm. Especially enjoyed his follow up post about manning dissecting.

It always sucks to end the season on a loss. But what a joy it was to watch 12 and 87 work together all year.

Of the five losses this team had this year, only one was really out of reach in the last two minutes of the game and it was a week 17 game against Miami when they were clearly playing to not get hurt. It's a privilege to be a fan of this team, and I really hope Brady's serious about this playing-til-I'm-45 shit.

I grew up in Foxboro and the first Pats team I really remember following was the 1981 edition that went 2-14 when I was 8. The first 20 years as a fan I saw 7 playoff seasons and 8 double-digit loss seasons. The Pats had their moments, but they were never really special.

Needless to say, I don't take anything that has occurred over the past 15 seasons for granted. 13 playoff appearances, 10 AFC champ games, 6 Super Bowls, 4 titles... I mean, come on.

The team wins a ton and is a blast to watch. You can't win a title every year, but they come as close as anyone. The injuries this season were brutal, and yet they were a play or two away from another Super Bowl.

I know I'll never see a run like this again, and I value every season in it.

The title of this thread should be, "thank you Malcolm Butler". That one play stopped a decade-long string of what ifs. Today sucked but you can't win every year.
