Just to be clear, as was discussed in the Ravens thread, the player is being sought as a witness. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and co-operated with police.

At least, that's what the story is now

Fleeing the scene when your friend is dying in the street is worse than accidently hitting him with the car. I'd put my money on Melvin being the mysterious Patriot.

Can we hold off on releasing the morality hounds until we actually know the circumstances of the Patriots' player's involvement?

A Reddit search has me guessing that it's Rashaan Melvin, or maybe Marcus Forston.

Melvin was a Raven before coming to New England, and free agent Forston is a Miami native.

But at the moment, as E5 clarified for me (thanks), whoever it is simply a witness to the tragic event.

Thoughts and prayers to the Walker family.

Walker was critically injured at about 7:50 p.m. Thursday while riding a white Honda dirt bike westbound on Northwest 75th Street, according to a statement issued by the Miami-Dade police. He collided with a Ford Escape going southbound on Northwest 21st Avenue driven by Donzetta Coaxum, 62. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital where, Butler said, he may not have regained consciousness after the crash.

Miami-Dade Police said Walker was wearing dark clothing and driving his bike without lights. Coaxum, listed as a senior trial coordinator on her Facebook page, stayed at the crash and worked with police.

Just awful.
As a parent, you try to teach your kids to protect themselves against everything you can foresee. But some things are beyond anything you can predict.

Am I the only one who finds it curious that the name of the player/witness being sought is still unknown? Even if police haven't publicly released the name it seems amazing that anyone questioned about the mystery Patriot's whereabouts hasn't said anything. Not saying that this needs to be public knowledge just seems odd that nothing has been reported considering the information age that we now live in.

This 25 year old person is dead, and you want to make a deflategate reference. Reflect on your life choices.

So too early to say Rog will dock a 1st and a 4th for the Pats being generally aware?
Does this tragedy fit the elements that make it appropriate to mock on SOSH?

Was this a player on a rival team of Pats/Sox/B's/C's? Check

Did said player die recklessly piloting a motorized craft? Check

Seems to fit known acceptable criteria. Please continue.

Sadly, I'm fine with attempts at mockery in the face of death. I'm not sure what that says about me.

What I'm not fine with is the deflategate plague that will not abate on this forum. At this point, I just need to know which threads will be safe to click on without reading a deflategate reference. Maybe a star or a tag or something that marks them deflategate-free.

Agreed. Nothing throws my whole day off quicker than reading a Deflategate reference on a sports message board.

I agree, it's very strange ... which is why I suggested we hold off trashing said player until we know the circumstances. By now, the police would have denied the report if there wasn't a player there.

Thanks for bringing this back, E5.

This isn't about anything other than a motorcycle accident in Miami and the resulting death of a player.

Jokes/trolling/persecution complexes not welcome. Like SSF said, let's just not.

The Cops are probably using the media to say something to the effect of, "Hey we know you were there, we want to talk". Guessing Cops think he left the scene for a very good reason.... drugs perhaps? No need to give the name out, at least not yet.

I assumed it was either drugs or he was drunk driving (not related to the crash, maybe following him home?) and the accident happens, sees there are others there and went home to clean out then show up. He hasn't shown up though, whoever it is.
