I'll be at the game at Tampa Saturday night. Possible they could clinch that night but need help.

Well now we know who to sacrifice to the gods of BABIP should we need to
And why would we wait for something bad, I believe in preemptive strikes where the baseball gods are concerned. They are capricious and not friends of ours.

'We'? I didn't know that you were a member of the Sox organization.

Learned something today.

Did you get a reference from Eric Van?
Yes. He blessed me with his Genuine Replica Aragorn Broadsword. It looked just like this:

With Toronto and Baltimore playing three times, isn't it actually 2 for at least a WC berth?
That's correct.

Code:
Team W L -- Series Remaining -- DivM# PlOffM#
Tex 90 63 -- 3@Oak -- 3vMIL -- 3vTB 1 1
Cle 89 63 -- 3vCWS -- 4@Det -- 3@KC 4 2
Bos 89 64 -- 3@TB -- 3@NYY -- 3vTor 5 2
Tor 83 69 -- 4vNYY -- 3vBal -- 3@Bos 8
Det 82 70 -- 3vKCR -- 4vCle -- 3@Atl 10
Bal 82 71 -- 3vAri -- 3@Tor -- 3@NYY
Hou 81 72 -- 3vLAA -- 3vSea -- 3@LAA
Sea 80 72 -- 3@Min -- 3@Hou -- 4vOak
NYY 79 73 -- 4@Tor -- 3vBos -- 3vBal
KCR 77 76 -- 3@Det -- 3vMin -- 3vCle
Detroit has 10 left and can get to 92 wins (taking away the 1st WC).
Hou and Sea can only get to 90.
That means both Bal and Tor need to pass Boston for one to take the AL East and the other to take WC2.
Tor has 10 left to add to 83 current wins; Bal has 9 left to add to 82.

If Bal wins out they get to 91 but limit Tor to 90 - anything less lets Tor get to 91+ but maxes Bal at 90. Therefore, to make the playoffs without an extra play-in game, Boston needs to get to 91.

edit: added Magic #'s to standings

Come on, guys. Get it together.
We're a bit rusty.

If they finish the season playing at the same winning percentage as the first 153 games, they'll finish with 94 and clinch the division, even if Toronto runs the table. Of course, since they are playing Toronto, they'd only need 93 wins to win the division outright by taking one game in that series, which is 4 wins total. If they can take 2 out of 3 from Toronto, they only need 92, or 3 wins. Or they could just win both of their next series (which would have the added benefit of burying the Yankees in the wild card race) and not have to care about the Toronto series at all.

In short, their destiny is squarely in their own hands and there are several paths available to them in the next 9 games to secure another division title.

Now I can see why the Red Sox were so anxious to stab the O's in the heart and twist the knife: the O's get the D-Backs at home next. Good thing, what we did.

I can't recall this long of a winning streak... Ever. I can recall several general hot streaks but they always seem to have been 6 in a row, one loss, 5 in a row, one loss, etc. off the top of my head, their last longest I can think of was 8 in a row marching through the '04 ALCS and WS

they had a 9 game streak in 2011, early in the season. they swept the A's, the Yanks and the BJ's consecutively in early June.

they had a 12 game in 2006 where they basically bent the NL over for two weeks.

I can't overstate how grateful I am to know that we'll be able to see Papi perform in the playoffs one more time.

I know you all are Patriots fans, but some of us are not and it's special, and it was special as far back as 2013 to witness a modern legend. And that 3 years later it's just as special is so great. Ortiz is the stuff of sports history. Could you imagine Ted Williams in the Internet era? We watch baseball in a shadow those days it seems but players like Ortiz make you believe in magic.
