Everything is AWESOME!!! Show ponies and unicorns!!this show is just bad radio
the pats are a top 3 NFL National team now only benind Dal and Pitt
the Cetlets are a icon brand in sports that basic made the NBA
the Sox go all in to win every year
do not know about hockey
sure every team makes mistakes but when Brady/BB is gone in 10 years they will beg for this time period back
I'm pretty sure F&M will have a field day if all 4 teams were terrible. They will drive negativity to the nth degreeEverything is AWESOME!!! Show ponies and unicorns!!
I'd expect the 4 draft picks to be a major topic by comparing this to the Meriweather draft (big gaps b/w picks) and preemptively arguing against the spin that the players they traded picks for count as this draft class (looking at Reiss here). They've already started doing this anyways.Well, they're going to have plenty to talk about tomorrow, especially Mazz.
Since I no longer listen, has he made the comparison to the Japanese ace the Sox signed vs. the one the Yankees signed and how it worked out the way it always works out?
"Yeah Felgah, maybe Belichick went to the lacrosse game so he could find the next Hogan, eva think of that?" This was actually said by a caller so I thought it was funny that they kept going with it.Felger gives Pat's an "F" for draft; trading for players doesn't count, he says. Funny since he talks about how useless draft analysis is all the time, but now the Pat's are engaging in hubris by not making more than 4 picks. "He just wants everyone to know how much smarter he is than the rest of them so he just basically skips the draft and goes home to watch lacrosse!" (paraphrase)
Disclaimer: I am aware I don't have to watch Felger and Mazz and they are trolling. I am aware, but i feel obligated to offer this critique anyway. But thanks for your concern. .
I agree with this. If the trades they had made resulted in Cooks, Ealy, Allen, and Gillislee being on full rookie contracts, then obviously the draft would be an A+++++++++. But since Cooks has only two years left (one of which will be at like $10M), and the other contracts are both shorter and higher dollar value than rookie contracts, you have to mark it down a bit. I love what they did with the picks they had, and I love the trades they made, but I think overall you have to give it more of a B+ or A-."Yeah Felgah, maybe Belichick went to the lacrosse game so he could find the next Hogan, eva think of that?" This was actually said by a caller so I thought it was funny that they kept going with it.
They pointed out that they were making fun of Kiper and I forget who else gave the Patriots "A's" for the draft, when they had 4 picks in what was supposed to be a deep defensive draft. Saying that the Patriots deserved an F was overboard but so was saying that they deserved an A.
Plus most of what they are saying is trolling the "honks" and tongue in cheek to get the honks to call in and say stupid shit like the reason for going to the lacrosse game.I agree with this. Yep. People hear what they want to hear. Felger could not have said more nice/positive/supportive things about Thomas's performance. And he replied to this criticism directly when he told a caller, "saying Thomas might not be worth a max contract is NOT disparaging the player or his effort last night."It wasn't too much to ask since Felger made all of the pro Thomas points that you wanted made.
Cleveland rules ... are not Boston rules.Via Joey Morona of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the local ESPN Radio affiliate fired Sabrina Parr after she offered this prediction about Peppers on the air: “He’s not going to make it because he’s on the Lean and the Molly.”
The “Lean” is a concoction of cough syrup and soda, also known as “Purple Drank,” among other names. Molly is Ecstasy. Both as illegal, and both are banned by the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.
A debate erupted after the allegation was made, with hosts Tony Rizzo and Aaron Goldhammer, with Parr eventually claiming that left tackle Joe Thomas is “on the Lean, too.” (She later claimed she was joking about Thomas.)
The dismissal of Parr came just hours after the comments were made. ESPN Cleveland is an official partner of the Browns.
Yeah, but the thinly-veiled codes are just like saying that that athlete is taking something. And while they don't give a shit, they know full well that there is a percentage of their audience that DO care. So, in effect, the audience is doing their dirty work.I hate defending Felger and Mazz, but as far as I know (and I don't listen all that much, but you don't have to listen all the time to get their schtick) they never actually come out and accuse people directly of being on any particular substance like that. It's typically something like "cough cough" or a reference to avocado ice-cream, and then a disclaimer that they don't care or everyone is doing something.
While Felger can't say what he thinks as definitive fact, by coughing he's not doing anything other than a radio bit vs saying "I don't know for certain, but I suspect Pedro took PEDs during his career". There is no legal threat from saying an unfounded opinion. Jerry Callahan has proven this for decades. Felger is excellent at arguing his opinions, even when they are wildely unpopular. And he doesn't lack stamina for arguing with callers. By coughing, instead of speaking, I agree that he's doing a weird code that is way beneath him.I agree that it's shameful and incredibly cowardly but it doesn't really insulate them. We all know what they're insinuating.
Yeah, so what I said basically. If you actually listened to the Pedro stuff, it was exactly as I described above. Lots of suggestion and supposition with a lot of caveating and couching. We can start with Pedro Martinez, and work backwards, forwards, or both:

Allow me to rephrase. Is it too much to ask they don't open the show, and thus paint the entire discussion, based on this question, when (in my view) the far more compelling story was the 50+ points he just put up, setting all sorts of Celtics records, just the night before. It wasn't too much to ask since Felger made all of the pro Thomas points that you wanted made.
They just liked this moment where he was covering sports in Atlanta on radio and the Bruins won vs Toronto in game 7 and he went on this huge celebratory rant. It was amusing, but to hire him over Keefe was truly stupid. Murray was never good, but he is getting worse as he adopts the personality of the hosts. Bertrand at least challenged the pair of simpletons on occasion.Serious question - why does Jim Murray even have a job on the top-rated sports show in the 1st or 2nd biggest sports town in the country?
It's not like he was a beat writer first, which you could at least say about Felger or Mazz.
He is absolutely worthless. I'd take Tanguay or Cafardo over him. And his David Price voice act is far from funny. It's like the kid from grade school who discovers that eating his boogers makes a few people laugh, and just holds on to that bit for as long as it gets him a seat at the lunch table.

(emphasis added).Felger & Mazz: Jim Murray Says Celtics Should Consider Firing Brad Stevens If They Get Swept
CBS-BostonApril 20, 2017
Get the Hot Take Police on the line! Jim Murrays says if the Celtics get swept by the Bulls in the first round of the playoffs, they should consider firing head coach Brad Stevens.
He's being an over the top ballbreaker today regarding the Celtics and their fans.Serious question - why does Jim Murray even have a job on the top-rated sports show in the 1st or 2nd biggest sports town in the country?

Yeah, I remember them playing that on his first day. So I guess the guy is a Bruins fan, which makes him Felger's binky, and since Felger has so much clout nowadays, they hired him for that reason. Pretty weak. They just liked this moment where he was covering sports in Atlanta on radio and the Bruins won vs Toronto in game 7 and he went on this huge celebratory rant. Someone should tell Tony that one's own sphincter is not the place to get someone else's pulse reading.Mazz, once again, has his finger on the pulse. The Celtics have quit. He called it.
I forgot about him, I stopped following him in 2011 for similar reasons after the Sox collapse. He couldn't understand why there was so much negativity. Gee, I wonder. It's a solid burn, but Bruce Allen is a bit of a baby at times. I had to stop following him because of his constant crying about how the Patriots are written about in the media.
It was nonstop too. Allen was incredulous that someone, anyone, could pick any team other than the Patriots for anything. He was finding boogeymen everywhere too. It got to be too much.I forgot about him, I stopped following him in 2011 for similar reasons after the Sox collapse. He couldn't understand why there was so much negativity. Gee, I wonder.
In the mocking words/voice of Felger, that was the ultimate "Ohhhh well, what do you think of [insert team/player name] NOW?!" media person. It was nonstop too. Allen was incredulous that someone, anyone, could pick any team other than the Patriots for anything. He was finding boogeymen everywhere too. It got to be too much.
I think that Spygate broke a lot of people's brains around here. Myself included BTW, but I skew opposite, I just don't care about anything that comes from the NFL anymore, aside from the games.
There was another Pats guy that I followed and within literal seconds after the Malcolm Butler interception in Super Bowl 49, he was retweeting negative tweets from the July before. I mean, if you can't enjoy a moment like that without shoving someone's nose in it, then I mean, what's the point of sports? And these tweets were kind of innocuous, like "the Pats line looks a little shaky" or "How much does Tom Brady have left in the tank?".
I don't get it.
This is the clown who said a few weeks ago that the Celtics should consider firing Brad Stevens if they were swept by the Bulls. Meanwhile, in this very basketball savvy city, Stevens gets the nod among knowledgeable people of right now being a top tier coach in the League and certainly projected to get better. And they have talked about him often.I generally stick up for this show because a lot of you are just as insufferable as F&M can be.
Jim Murray today though... What a troll.
Felger has mastered trolling where you can usually hear the wink and nod if he isn't targeting you but Murray doesn't have the chops.
