If Rozier makes any sort of leap, my schadenboner is going to be measured in feet. The 'wouldn't give up Rozier' meme is also pretty popular.

Nope. Glen Davis was actually good when he was a Celtics bench guy. Leon Powe was well on his way to being a stellar bench guy when he blew up his knee. Tony Allen. For all the credit Ainge gets for putting together KG - Allen - Pierce I think he receives relatively little criticism for the horrible benches those teams had, outside of '08 when he absolutely nailed it. We saw Brian Scalabrine and Mikki Moore get major minutes. Glen Davis was a big contributor off the bench.
Glen Davis was, by some measures, among the worst players in the NBA in competition with Andrea Bargnani. Leon Powe is an amazing man and I never meant to besmirch his name, but the injuries were not exactly out of nowhere given he blew both ACLs in college and Danny didn't stack the big man bench to cover for that contingency besides 2008. Tony Allen - great pick, and Danny did not resign him.Nope. Glen Davis was actually good when he was a Celtics bench guy. From KG's arrival, Scal never played more than 512 minutes in a season for the C's.
Yeah, the common refrain is that Ainge never cashed in his "stockpile of assets" and Hayward just gets them to Game 6 of the ECF. It's stupid, but of course if the Celtics go 0/5 (and maybe even if they only go 1/5) on getting an all-star out of their potentially high picks (Smart/Brown/Tatum/BKN/LAL-SAC) -and I suppose also if they don't make The Finals - it won't stop.No doubt, Celtics and Danny have definitely taken a beating on most mainstream and internet channels. Mostly this comes down to not landing a STAR player like George and Butler. The 'wouldn't give up Rozier' meme is also pretty popular.
I'd argue that renting George would be a dumb short game move (even though from most reports they made a better offer than what the Pacers eventually got) and their offer for Butler was also better than the deal the Bulls eventually made.
Like you said (and thanks to IT) these have been pretty successful Bridge Years and the best is to come.
I've irrationally hated West since that offseason. The word was out he signed but then changed his mind overnight. He would have been a huge addition to that team.Having David West choose more money with the Pacers over the MLE with the Celtics probably cost a ring, and that was the only real impact guy rumored to sign here. Danny did take a lot of fliers on vets (Shaw, Sheed, Marbury, Jermaine O'Neal) that never worked out as well as Cassell/Brown did.
Not sure the numbers back me up but I was disappointed when Sheed decided to retire rather than come back another year. Could've used him.Having David West choose more money with the Pacers over the MLE with the Celtics probably cost a ring, and that was the only real impact guy rumored to sign here. I remember Sheed being rough during the regular season. He was a hero game 7 though, even if it didn't turn into victory. Not sure the numbers back me up but I was disappointed when Sheed decided to retire rather than come back another year. Could've used him.
Yeah, he got the scoring started while the rest of the team was busy bricklayingI remember Sheed being rough during the regular season. He was a hero game 7 though, even if it didn't turn into victory.
Not only that, they treat the Cavs as if they were a static benchmark. The entire complexion of the Eastern Conference could change after next year if LeBron decides it's time to opt out and head for greener pastures. At which point, we will be the presumptive favorites and have Horford, Hayward, Tatum, Brown, and maybe IT...not to mention whoever we might be fortunate enough to draft in 2019 with the Nets and possibly Lakers pick as our core.It seemed like this host would be more impressed if the Celtics had won 43 games, and kept KO and Bradley. They simply can't process a team winning 53 games and going to ECF *during* the rebuild..
Didn't Sheed retire, sit out a year and then come back with another team after his time with the Celtics. He was fantastic in game 7 but I think I remember his comments following that game being something to the effect of "I'm too old for this shit."Not sure the numbers back me up but I was disappointed when Sheed decided to retire rather than come back another year. Rasheed left $12m on the table by retiring early rather than dealing with his back injury and the team required rehab he would have had to deal with on a daily basis. By all accounts he really struggled with the back over the final year or two of his career so that continuing on to "CTC" (Sheed's imfamous "Cash the check" acronym) wasn't worth it.Didn't Sheed retire, sit out a year and then come back with another team after his time with the Celtics.
