Tom Brady injured his left shoulder vs Carolina and re-aggravated said injury in Tampa. More coming shortly on @NBCSBoston
I hope the first rather than the second part of this tweet is wrong. Because with Rap, one part, if not the whole thing, is wrong
#Patriots QB Tom Brady suffered what is thought to be an AC joint sprain in his left, non-throwing shoulder, source said. He said he’ll play
On the other hand, with Jacoby looking like a talented and capable starter, they could have drafted some young OL assets acquired with Jimmy G and still been set moving forward. I’m sure it wasn’t an easy decision.fucking o-line
this was one of the reasons, but only one of the reasons, I'm pleased they passed on the oft discussed, would be, Jimmy G "draft haul"
Look, I'm all for TB12 getting as pliable as he wants, but the bolded part of this quote, if Guerrero actually said it, is galactically stupid. You can't "strengthen" your ACL. Edelman's ACL injury, like most, was a freak thing and didn't happen because of a lack of certain types of exercises on Edelman's part. You guys can take this for what it's worth.
Someone I know and see a couple times a week works for the TB12 clinic and with Guerrero and Tom pretty closely. We discussed this last week on Wednesday prior to the game, and he said that Tom should be ok as long as he didn't get too beat up against Tampa - but that he was hurting a bit.
Anecdotally - he also said that the day before Edelman tore his knee, Alex was telling Julian that he needed to be doing strengthening exercises on his ACL because it was a 'ticking time bomb.' So, there's that.
Before this deeply annoying and disturbing announcement, we had some discussion here of putting these games in the hands of the backs. Runs and dump off passes. To keep TB in one piece and to help a struggling D by shortening the game.Time for Gillislee to get 25 carries... especially against the Jets.
They were seventh in the NFL last seasonThe offense wont be as good if they are running and throwing dump off passes. The line hasnt been good at run blocking for years and Cooks/Gronk/Hogan are all most effective as downfield threats. They arent a good enough team to try and win games with one hand tied behind their back on offense.
Then I'm doubly happy we kept JG. Because the beating TB has taken the first 5 weeks is not sustainable. Things either improve, or it's next man up.The offense wont be as good if they are running and throwing dump off passes. In total yards. But they were inefficient - 24th in YPC at 3.9 (which is the same total as this season). They were seventh in the NFL last season
Yeah and none of the metrics guys grade the Pats line as good at run blocking. Total yards is a terrible metric. Pats were a pretty run heavy team last year as well, even when Brady returned. In total yards. But they were inefficient - 24th in YPC at 3.9 (which is the same total as this season).
Yeah, Jimmy G's was a little more severe i thinkThis is the same injury that JimmyG had in his throwing shoulder last season? I seem to recall some references then to Brady having endured a similar injury at least once before.
Call it the 0 Line.At this point shouldn't we just call it the fucking NO-line?
And next man down. I'd be concerned with Jimmy's shoulder as well. Then I'm doubly happy we kept JG. Because the beating TB has taken the first 5 weeks is not sustainable. Things either improve, or it's next man up.
Yes. But he is at least mobile. And they would run stuff to take advantage of that and thereby exact a price for let's-pin-our-ears back and come together 5 yards behind the center. Right now, it's a turkey shoot. And next man down. I'd be concerned with Jimmy's shoulder as well.
He was mobile when he got slammed to the turf last season. I'm just having flashbacks.Yes. But he is at least mobile. And they would run stuff to take advantage of that and thereby exact a price for let's-pin-our-ears back and come together 5 yards behind the center. Right now, it's a turkey shoot.
Of all the possibly interesting things in the world, this is one of the supposedly interesting things that I am least interested in actually witnessing.I always wonder how his incredible run is going to end. An injury that reduces his effectiveness enough that he decides to hang it up? A crappy 8-8 season with another mediocre season likely to follow? A SB win followed by a retirement speech? Giselle forcing his hand? Going to be interesting to see how his end game plays out.
Meh, I actually think Jimmy gets sacked more than Brady and isn't very suited to play against a good pass rush at this stage of his careeer. Avoiding pressure was scouted a weakness out of college and still has looked like a weakness during his limited pro reps.Yes. But he is at least mobile. And they would run stuff to take advantage of that and thereby exact a price for let's-pin-our-ears back and come together 5 yards behind the center. Right now, it's a turkey shoot.
Only their second best player. They aren't going to rest their best player if he's physically able to play.
Seriously? What's the difference between a TE and a QB? One touches the ball a couple of times a game and one touches it every snap. That's just for starters.Only their second best player.
Ed: what's the difference between resting Gronkowski and resting Brady from the team's perspective?
Fair enough. They don't really rest Gronkowski when he's physically ready to play either.
If Brady has an injury that makes him more susceptible to further injury, they'll be somewhat cautious. They aren't going to rest him because he hurt his left shoulder and their offensive line sucks.
Understood except Gronkowski in the game changes everything. I'm no stat guy but to me he has to be worth 5-8 points compared to the back-ups they have on this year's team.Seriously? What's the difference between a TE and a QB? One touches the ball a couple of times a game and one touches it every snap. That's just for starters.
I think this is how the Trojan War started.Only their second best player.

Who needs DRS?Oh boy! An injury I can relate to, and now talk out of my ass about, as it compares to Brady.
Back in June I suffered what was later diagnosed as a grade 2/3 AC separation in my throwing shoulder during a flag football game. The very next play I threw what could only be considered a 100 year old Peyton Manning duck on a 2pt attempt and decided I should probably sit out the rest. I'm 2 years younger than TB and presumably not in quite as good shape as he, but 4 months later, it still sucks doing certain motions.
Thankfully it's not his throwing shoulder and it's "only" a sprain. But with the Oline currently being what it is, it's only a matter of time before something worse happens. In Dante we pray/trust?
I had the same thought. Ligaments aren't muscles. Pliability work helps with, well, pliability, but it's not like there's a way to strengthen what's essentially the human body equivalent of a rubber band.Look, I'm all for TB12 getting as pliable as he wants, but the bolded part of this quote, if Guerrero actually said it, is galactically stupid. Back to the topic at hand, our offensive line is going to get Brady fucking killed this year.
